Yes, U-Turn Please.... a Kabaddi Match experience

Yes, U-Turn Please ..
..  a Kabaddi Match experience

The world is topsy-turvy. Everything is skewed. Well, what is the similarity between a National Cricket Team and an organisation’s  Kabaddi Team ? Apply your super-brain. Could not get any clue ? Doesn’t matter, listen to a simple story.

Once a Kabaddi Team of Some
Organisation was in the field for official Kabaddi match with another similar organisation. Bear in mind, this is official so nothing un-official we should talk. No bribes, no rudeness, no sycophancy to political heavyweights, nothing. Everything we think here should be official. And surprisingly to it’s true spirit, the match was really a watchable one when in a break, I ordered for a Rs. 10 Coffee  to a boy carrying a kettle. Since everything is official here suppose that the seller boy was more than 18 years of age. I was wondering what is happening in the stadium. Such a nice game ! Oh our notion was wrong about the poor members of the organisation. We wrongly call them Wardi Wala Gunda’ (A hooligan in uniform). Very wrong we are. Let me see the whole match and then I would write an article paying tribute to these faultless unsung talents who at least PLAY with full spirit.

The moment the game started after break, the hostility of play rejuvenated. It gathered momentum when one sturdy tall man crossed middle line and entered the rival’s area uttering –“kabaddi, kabaddi, kabaddi.........”. I felt pity for the other side as they were  so weak striving hard to save themselves from the tall sturdy guy who had entered. And lo... what’s it ? W H A T’S IT ?? The tall sturdy guy just pushed himself into the middle of rival’s field and then all of a sudden, he broke his calling “kabaddi-kabaddi... . He stopped. No need to explain, stopping utterance of word 'kabaddi... there meant he was declared ‘OUT’ by the referee. I dazed. What is it? There might be an over-confidence on part of this team that they will win even without that guy. And for proving their effrontery they might have done so.

But soon it became clear that the matter was different. I saw that the rival team did the same. The most strong person with proven long breathing power went straight into it’s opponent’s area and stopped uttering – “kabaddi, kabaddi....” He was also outed. Perhaps they also took the challenge that they can also win even without the most efficient guy of their team.

My mind was bewildered, completely. Could not make anything of this perverse sort of challenge. I was sure that no money remains in the hands of bookie after cricket to bet on and ‘Kabaddi’ was a far cry for them. So there was no chance  a team or player would go downhill deliberately as far as performance was concerned. But it was so naked that I was compelled to transpire that everyone there was committed to lose.

But the match was still interesting. Now, it was worth watching which of the teams succeeds in being declared defeated, of course, OFFICIALLY ! There was a great scramble for it between them. One-by-one they were going from each side and with all their audacity, were breaking the ‘breath’ after such a miniscule period for which even an aggravated asthmatic patient would feel ashamed. Now I noticed streak of discomfiture on the face-line of the players. It was obvious that they were worried that the wicked opposite party should not be declared loser before them at any cost.

And to the crowning glory of the game, the Captain of the first team now came forward and shouted with an ear-splitting sound that “WE SURRENDER”.
I came to know from the coffee-seller boy that the loser  team will get a spare time of some 20-25 days to visit their villages in an un-official vacation till the Tournament of the Organisational  Games persists in the City.
